Privacy policy
WaxOn helps cyclists track chain-wax intervals. This policy describes the data it handles.
What we store
- Account: your Strava athlete ID, display name, and avatar URL, provided by Strava when you sign in.
- Gear & maintenance: bikes and chains you add, wax history you log, and distance counters derived from your ride distances.
- Strava access tokens, stored server-side only, used to read your gear list and ride distances. WaxOn never posts to Strava and never reads ride locations, routes, or health data.
No analytics
WaxOn contains no analytics and no tracking — no usage analytics, no session recordings, no third-party analytics SDK. The server keeps short-lived operational logs (errors and events such as a ride being credited, tagged with your account ID) so we can keep the service running and fix problems; they expire on their own and are never used to profile you.
What we don't do
- No ads, no data sales.
- No durable copy of your Strava activity history — only running distance totals per chain and processed activity IDs.
Choosing what Strava shares
We don't track you. If you're still unsure, you don't have to hand any of it over — Strava shows three tick boxes when you sign in, and two of them are optional. Untick them and WaxOn still works.
View data about your public profile
Required, and Strava keeps it ticked. Your athlete ID, display name and avatar — that's it.
View your complete Strava profile
Without this permission, WaxOn can't see your gear list, so it won't be able to import your bikes. This means it can't add distance automatically.
Everything else still works. You can add a bike by hand and track the distance manually. All the alerts and notifications will still work. You can also still add others' bikes and help them with their maintenance.
View data about your private activities
You can choose not to share your private rides. WaxOn will then only see your public rides — private and followers-only rides stay invisible, so the distance from those rides will not be added. But you could add the difference by hand whenever you like.
Changed your mind? Sign out in Settings and sign back in, then tick what you want. Your bikes, chains and history aren't touched. There's a walkthrough on the support page.
Sharing you control
If you create a share code for a bike, the person who redeems it can see that bike, its chains, and its wax history, and can log services. You can revoke this at any time, immediately.
Deletion
Delete your account any time in the app (Settings → Delete account) — this removes all your data immediately. Disconnecting WaxOn on strava.com does the same.
You can also do it in a browser, without installing the app: delete your account. That page lists exactly what goes, and offers an email route if you'd rather not sign in.
